HIGH ALPINE TOURS

The following route descriptions are only a small part of the countless tours within the giant Ötztal and Stubai Alps. All of them are high Alpine tours including hikes across the glacier and past glacier crevasses. It is strongly recommended to make these tours only accompanied by a certified, local mountain guide! All hiking times given are approximate guide only.

 

ÖTZTAL ALPS

 
WILDSPITZE - Tirol's highest mountain (3,776 m)

Wildspitze is the highest peak within the entire Ötztal Alps, Austria's second highest mountain, and the most popular glacier peak in the Eastern Alps. You can choose from several, not very challenging ascents which should not be underrated (crevasses, falling rocks).

Ascents:
• Breslauer Hütte - regular trail: approx. 3,5 h
• Breslauer Hütte via Ötztaler Urkund: 4,5 h, difficult
• Vernagt Hütte: 4,5 h
• Braunschweiger Hütte: 5 h
• Taschachhaus: 5 h

WEISSKUGEL - most beautiful parnorama (3,739 m)

Weißkugel is the second highest mountain in the Ötztal Alps and much less popular than Wildspitze peak. The stunning views and vistas of the Alpine scenery are a truly unique highlight not be missed.

Ascents:
• Brandenburger Haus: 4,5 h
• Schöne Aussicht: 5,5 h
• Hochjochhospiz: 5 h

HINTERE SCHWÄRZE (3,628 m)

A more challenging alternative to Similaun peak: higher, steeper, longer ascent and much less poeple.

Ascent:
• Martin- Busch-Hütte: ca. 4,5 h

SIMILAUN (3,606 m)

Very popular peak covered in ice, easy to reach and offering an unforgettable view of the surrounding mountains. Both trails are rated easy glacier tours but ropes and climbing irons (on the top of the peak) are always required.

Ascents:
• Martin Busch Hütte: 4 - 5 h
• Similaun Hütte: 2 h

HINTERER BROCHKOGL (3,635 m)

Brochkogel, with its majestic snow-covered peak and the steep north-eastern rock face, is located in the west of Wildspitze mountian. In most cases the tour is combined with the ascent to Wildspitze. Quite challenging trail!

Ascents:
• Breslauer Hütte: approx. 3 h
• Vernagt Hütte: 4 h
• Braunschweiger Hütte: 4,5 h
• Taschachhaus: 4 h

VORDERER BROCHKOGL (3,562 m)

Vorderer Brochkogel nestles between Wildspitze peak and Hinterer Brochkogel. Ascents vary in difficulty, some of them are suitable for experienced rock climbers only.

Ascents:
• Vernagt Hütte: 3 - 4 h
• Breslauer Hütte: 2,5 h

HOCHVERNAGTSPITZE (3,535 m)

A very popular peak towering high above the Vernagt glacier fields. Steeply falling rock face on its western part.

Ascents:
• Vernagthütte: 4 h
• Taschachhaus: 5 h
• Rauhekopfhütte: 4 h
• Gepatschhaus: 7 h

PETERSENSPITZE (3,482 m)

Corn snow-covered mountain peak situated between Brochkogel and Taschachjoch saddle. Beautiful northwestern rock face. Can be perfectly combined with other peaks in the surroundings.

Ascents:
• Vernagthütte: 3 h
• Taschachhaus: 4 h

FLUCHTKOGL (3,500 m)

Majestic ice peak with broad corn snow slope facing to the south. Great panoramic views. Popular hiking destination.

Ascents:
• Brandenburger Haus: 1,5 h
• Vernagt Hütte: 2,5 h
• Rauhekopf Hütte: 3 h

HINTEREISSPITZEN (3,485 m)

The peaks are towering approximately 100m above the glacier fields of Gepatschferner.

Ascents:
• Brandenburger Haus (crossing 3 peaks): 3 h

WEISSSEESPITZE (3,518 m)

Magnificent peak covered in corn snow in the western part of Gepatschferner glacier. Stunning panorama. Popular hiking destination.

Ascents:
• Car park of Kaunertal Glacier Road: 3 h
• Rauhekopfhütte: 3 h
• Brandenburger Haus: 3 h
• Weißkugelhütte: 4 h

MARZELLSPITZEN Peaks (3,550 m)

The Eastern Marzellspitze at 3,555 m is the highest of the three peaks, followed by the Western Marzellspitze at 3,540 m and the Central Marzellspitze at 3,530 m.

Ascents:
• Martin-Busch-Hütte: 4 h

FINEILSPITZE (3,516 m)

Fineilspitze peak in the southwest of Hauslabjoch saddle - high above Hochjochferner glacier - can be seen from far away. Located opposite Similaun peak. A wonderful high Alpine tour offering stunning vistas of the Alpine valleys. Truly unique insiders tip.

Ascents:
• Similaunhütte: 2,5 h
• Martin-Busch-Hütte: 4,5 h
• Schöne-Aussicht: 4 h

HAUSLABKOGL (3,402 m)

Situated in the northeast of Hauslabjoch saddle.

Ascents:
• Similaunhütte: 1,5 h
• Martin-Busch-Hütte: 3 h
• Hochjochhospiz: 5 h
• Schöne Aussicht: 3 h

TALLEITSPITZE (3,406 m)

Located in the northeastern corner of Kreuzkamm saddle, towering high above Venter Tal valley. Coming to Vent from the North, this mountain peaks can be seen from far away.

Ascents:
• from Vent: 5 h

GROSSER RAMOLKOGL (3,550 m)

Impressive rock face and ice peak amid Ramolkamm saddle, right between Gurgler Tal valley and Venter Tal valley.

Ascents:
• Ramolhaus: 3 h

MUTMALSPITZE (3,522 m)

A pointed peak in the north of Marzellferner Glacier, right next to Hintere Schwärze mountain.

Ascents:
• Martin-Busch-Hütte: 4,5 h

HINTERER SPIEGELKOGL (3,424 m)

The Hintere Spiegelkogel is a beautiful peak amid Ramolkamm saddle, situated between Ramoljoch area and Spiegeljoch col. Among its highlights ranks the very steep, hanging glacier in the northwest. Coming from Ramolhaus hut and Gurgler Ferner glacier the peak looks like a unique rock face.

Ascents:
• Ramolhaus: 2,5 - 3 h

FIRMISANSCHNEIDE (3,490 m)

Located amid Ramolkamm saddle, in the south of Spiegelkogel peak. For experienced hikers only. Can be perfectly combined with the ascent to Spiegelkogel mountain.

Ascents:
• Ramolhaus: 3 h

SCHALFKOGL (3,537 m)

Wonderful glacier peak high above Gurgler Ferner Glacier. Picture-book backdrop at the end of the valley in Obergurgl.

Ascents:
• Hochwildehaus: 4 h
• Ramolhaus: 3 h

HOCHWILDE (3,458 m)

Elegant twin peak high above the giant glacier fields of Gurgler ferner and Langtaler Ferner. Steep rock faces in the south. Popular hiking destination.

Ascents:
• Hochwildehaus: 4 h
• Stettiner Hütte: 3 h

HOCHFIRST (3,403 m)

Highest peak withing the northeastern mountain chain. Majestic northwest rock face.

Ascents:
• Obergurgl: 6 h

STUBAI ALPS

    
ZUCKERHÜTL (3,505 m)

The highest peak of the Stubai Alps, featuring glacier fields in the north-facing areas of Sulzenauferner glacier. Popular hiking destination. For the first section, hikers can take the Stubai gondola. Easily accessible.

Ascents:
• Hildesheimer Hütte: 2,5 h
• Siegerland Hütte: 4,5 h
• Dresdner Hütte: 4 h
• Sulzenau Hütte: 4 h
• Müller Hütte: 2 h
• Eisgrad Terminal - Stubai Glacier Gondola: 2,5 h

SCHAUFELSPITZE (3,340 m)

Majestic peak in the south of Schaufelferner glacier. Popular hiking destination troughout the year - thanks to the Stubai Glacier Gondola. Fantastic panoramic views.

Ascents:
• Dresdner Hütte: 3,5 h
• Hildesheimer Hütte: 2,5 h

STUBAIER WILDSPITZE (3,341 m)

Giant rock face towering above Daunkogelferner glacier. Popular hiking destination worth visiting. Surefootedness and mountaineering expierience required. The regular route features steel ropes.

Ascents:
• Dresdner Hütte: 4 h
• Hildesheimer Hütte: 2,5 h
• Eisgrad Terminal - Stubai Glacier Gondola: 2 h

SONKLARSPITZE (3,467 m)

Broad snow-covered peak in the south of Wilder Paffe mountain.

Ascents:
• Siegerland Hütte: 3 h
• Müller Hütte: 2 h

WILDE LECK (3,359 m)

Picture-book mountain peak with majestic ridges above Sulztalferner glacier. Very challenging ascents. Also the regular route, across the southern rock face, is rated very difficult.

Ascents:
• Amberger Hütte: 4 h
• Hochstubai Hütte: 3,5 h

WINDACHER DAUNKOGEL (3,348 m)

The westernmost peak of the mountain chain. Can be perfectly combined with the ascent to Warenkarseitenspitze mountain.

Ascents:
• Hochstubai Hütte: 1,5 h
• Hildesheimer Hütte: 3,5 h
• Amberger Hütte: 5 h

WARENKARSEITENSPITZE (3,354 m)

Huge peak stretching from north to south with steep slopes and rock faces in the east and in the west.

Ascents:
• Hochstubai Hütte: 1 h
• Hildesheimer Hütte: 4 h

SCHRANKOGEL (3,496 m)

Prominent peak with majestic rock faces towering above Sulztal valley. Second highest mountain in the Stubai Alps.

Ascents:
• Amberger Hütte: 5 h
• Franz-Senn Hütte: 6 h
